What to do if your Sun Life Advisor resigns?

what to do if your Sun Life advisor resigns

I’ve been receiving a lot of inquiries and requests on Beneficiary Change, Name Change, VUL Fund Withdrawal, VUL Fund Switches and even Policy Surrender on this blog.

And most of the time, I would first ask them “Is your Sun Life Advisor still active?” Or, “Are you an Orphan Client?”

Why? Simply because, their Sun Life advisor is the best person to answer their queries and help and assist them.

However, if they are an Orphan client, that’s a different story.

A Sun Life Orphan Client is a Sun Life policyholder without an active servicing agent.

Sometimes, an advisor decides to leave Sun Life due to personal reasons (e.g. moved abroad, takes over the family business, gets seriously ill, etc.).

Other times, an advisor’s contract is cancelled because they did not meet company performance or ethical standards (e.g. production, market conduct guidelines). When this happens, the orphaned client has two options:

  • He/she may opt for Sun Life’s recommended advisor
  • He/she may advise Sun Life if he/she has a preferred advisor

Do I really need to have a servicing Sun Life Advisor? Or can I exist without a Sun Life Advisor?

Technically, yes you can survive without an active servicing Sun Life Advisor. It’s just that, it’s a lot difficult compared to having a reliable Sun Life Advisor.

For one, you will need to call Sun Life’s hotline should you have any quick inquiries. Or if you have any changes requests, you will have to personally go to any Sun Life centers nationwide.

What’s in it for me if I have an active Sun Life advisor?

  1. Online Assistance on Policy Changes: An active servicing advisor can easily assist you ONLINE on Policy Changes like Beneficiary Change, Name Change, VUL Fund Withdrawal and even Policy Surrender. Yep, you read it right, online via remote servicing. Without an active servicing advisor, you will have to do this by going to any Sun Life centers nationwide in person. Imagine the hassle, time and effort wasted.
  2. Timely Updates and Reviews: A dedicated Sun Life advisor ensures that clients are promptly informed about changes in the insurance landscape, policy updates, and market trends. Regular reviews will surely help you to adapt the insurance strategy to changing life’s stages.
  3. Payment and due reminders: Your Sun Life advisor also reminds you on your billing dues and gives you advise in case of any payment delays.
  4. Emotional Support and Trust: An active servicing advisor provides more than just financial advice; they offer emotional support and build a trusting relationship. This emotional connection can be invaluable during critical moments, such as claim processes or major life events.

So what do you need to do if you no longer have an active Sun Life advisor?

  1. Look around – ask anyone from your circle of friends or relatives. You might have a close friend or a distant relative who is a Sun Life advisor. Most of the time, the closer the relationship you have to your Sun Life advisor, the better. Besides, they will be sure to know if anything happens to you.
  2. Check online – try to search and message Sun Life advisors you see online. The quicker the response the better. That only means that they are reliable whenever you need them be it quick inquiry or changes request or worst case scenario, claim assistance.
  3. Once you have a candidate, you will need to submit an Advisor Change Request form. This is readily downloadable on Sun Life’s website www.sunlife.com.ph -> About Us -> Find a Form -> Advisor Change Request (link here)
  4. Fill out the form with your details and the details of the new Sun Life Advisor and along with a copy of your valid govt issued ID, submit this via Phil-CSS@sunlife.com. Make sure to sign on page 2, item 5. Digital signatures are accepted. Check my video post on how to sign on pdf using your mobile phone for a quick tutorial.

Technically, this can be done in 2 ways. One – your Sun Life advisor will be the one to submit the Change Request to Sun Life with your email address cc’d. Or, two – you as the client will send the email to Sun Life with the Sun Life advisor’s details.
